On Sunday, I had the privilege of being the sole doctor and on-site medical provider for @nitrocircus during their #Rockford stop. I arrived at the arena at 8:50 am and left after 10 p.m., barely sitting down the entire time. I got the chance to practice emergency procedures, set up a makeshift clinic, identify potential hazards with the course, and make reconnecting on how to fix them, position and coach #ems on the best possible crash procedures, and treat the athletes before, during and and after the show. I learned and refined my skills on how to organize and run the medical side of sporting events and gained confidence that I could be placed in almost any situation (except climbing that 50 foot ramp) and have people calling me a #wizard.
Guess who was the Event Medical Manager, during the recent @NitroCircus event in #UnionDale N.Y.?! Our very own Instructor Jose Balseca (D.C. '14)! Yep! He led the medical team throughout the event, including the medical room and on-floor emergency care. And guess who else was working there?! College grad, Dr. Nicholas Benevento (D.C. '20), also in the second photo! 💙 🙌 Great job representing where a #NortheastBlue future can take you! And thanks for the hook up, @wmiGlobal_INC.
I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the WMI medical team at the Hartford, CT and Trenton, NJ Nitro Circus events. I can honestly say it was a remarkable experience. The Nitro Circus athletes perform awe-inspiring stunts, and the adrenaline is palpable. Our role as the WMI medical staff was crucial, not just for providing emergency care, but also for pre-planning and securing clear egress routes, in case of emergencies. It was amazing to collaborate with such a professional and highly skilled team, where everyone's focus was on both athlete safety and the smooth operation of the event. We worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that every precaution was taken to keep the athletes safe while they performed their incredible stunts. The coordination between the medical team, event organizers, and the athletes was seamless. Knowing that we were part of ensuring the safety of these extreme sports athletes made the entire experience even more fulfilling. Working with the Nitro Circus team was a fantastic opportunity to see a major live event from an entirely new perspective, and I'm grateful for the chance to contribute to its success. The professionalism and dedication of the WMI medical team were beyond impressive, and it was truly a privilege to be part of this high-stakes, action-packed team environment.
