Why should I take this course?

Course Description

This course provides learners with practical skills and knowledge to manage acute wounds, burns, and lightning-related injuries. Participants will learn proper wound care, burn classification and treatment, and how to recognize and respond to complications. The course also covers lightning injury risk factors, prevention strategies, and initial triage and prioritization of care following lightning strikes. Student time during the course is tracked and logged. A quiz will be required at the end of the class; 80% is required to pass. Two attempts are permitted.

Brooke McLaughlin

WMI Global - Wilderness Medicine and Rescue Instructor

Brooke McLaughlin has a B.S. in Neuroscience and is currently a medical student at the University of New England. She enjoys teaching and has tutored several medical school courses including anatomy. Brooke is a licensed EMT in Maine with an Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification. Her favorite outdoor activities include fishing, hunting, and camping.
